Olaiya Igwe has opened up about a past mistake that continues to weigh on his conscience—his wrongdoing toward gospel singer Tope Alabi.
The veteran actor confessed that he still seeks every opportunity to ask for her forgiveness, recalling a moment when Olu Jacobs witnessed one of his heartfelt apologies.
Ebun Oloyede, widely known as Olaiya Igwe, shared how a thoughtless decision once put his relationship with Tope Alabi at risk, a regret he carries to this day.
In a recent interview on Baba Ibe TV, Olaiya Igwe recounted an incident that happened years ago when he purchased a luxury car for one of his movies, only for it to be stolen. Fortunately, luck was on his side, and the vehicle was later recovered.
He revealed that this occurred around the time Tope Alabi and her husband, Soji, were preparing for their wedding. The excited couple visited him and requested to use the car as their official wedding ride, a request he gladly accepted without hesitation.
However, as the wedding day approached, doubts began to creep in. Fear took hold of him, and he became paranoid about the possibility of the car being stolen again. Instead of voicing his concerns, he made the regrettable decision to cut off all communication.
On their wedding day, Olaiya Igwe recalled how Tope Alabi and her husband tried reaching out to him, but he ignored their calls. With no other option, the couple had to borrow a friend’s car for their big day.
The veteran actor admitted that regret set in almost immediately, and to this day, the guilt still lingers. He revealed that he has sought Tope Alabi’s forgiveness countless times.
Reflecting on one particular moment, he recounted pleading with her in the presence of veteran actor Olu Jacobs. According to Olaiya, Tope Alabi did not take the matter to heart, and Olu Jacobs tried to console him, assuring him that it wasn’t a big deal and that his actions were driven by fear rather than malice.
