Popular Nigerian actress Ayo Adesanya has shared her experiences playing wicked roles in movies, revealing the emotional impact these roles have on her.
In an interview with Saturday Beats, Adesanya expressed her surprise and discomfort at how convincingly she portrays malevolent characters.
“Acting different roles exposes one to various lifestyles,” Adesanya said. “Sometimes, when I watch myself acting wickedly in a movie, I marvel at how well and easily I play those roles. I begin asking myself if I am that wicked. It actually makes me feel bad. I know I am wearing someone’s character, but I still wonder why a character could be so heartless.”
Adesanya’s latest venture is a YouTube series titled ‘Madam Movable.’ In this series, she takes on a comedic role as a delivery woman, marking her first foray into comedy.
Speaking about the project, she highlighted the challenges she encountered, such as learning to ride a bike.
“Having acted a lot of characters, I decided to do something different that would help me push boundaries,” Adesanya explained. “There are lots of delivery men, but I have never encountered a delivery woman. Also, I have not really explored my comedy side the way I would love to, so I decided to do so in this series. However, it is not the usual style of comedy, but a ‘calm’ one. Learning to ride a bike was not easy and I had to train for a week before I could get it right. After that experience, I started to give kudos to okada riders.”
In addition to her acting career, Adesanya also offered advice to young women regarding relationships.
“Having a good relationship is not easy now, as even men do not want to get married again,” she said. “However, if a relationship starts from friendship, it will flourish better. There are different reasons one might want to ask for money from a man, but if you are just dating, under no circumstance must you ask for money, because you will lose your respect. If he gives you, that’s fine. But, you should not ask.”
