Nollywood actress Bukunmi Oluwasina has penned a heartfelt letter to her colleagues, showing support for rising star Jumola Bello, who is striving to break the world record for the longest stage performance.
In a detailed post on her Instagram, Bukunmi expressed deep disappointment over the lack of support from their peers. She pointed out how Jumola reached out to many of them, and despite her efforts and the video going viral, they ignored her.
Bukunmi criticized the tendency in the industry to only support or show up for those they believe could be beneficial to them in the future. She emphasized that this behavior isn’t genuine love or support but rather a transactional relationship. She urged her colleagues to extend their support even to those who might not be able to offer anything in return, at least once in a while.
She noted how if it was a celebrity doing such, it wouldn’t be like this. Urging them to show support, she told them not to watch people die before they show up for them.
She wrote: @realojumolabello started a journey 5 days ago, attempting @guinnessworldrecords Longest Acting on stage. She hasn’t slept and is very exhausted. And based on what is said, she has reached out to a lot of us before and during this journey. It was her last day and she had even exceeded the acting hour, but only two colleagues showed up to show support.
And No, let’s not pretend we didn’t even know about it. We do. You do. A lot of public figures have been tagged. And again lets not say “I don’t think I know her” No, you do. 99% of those who have worked with @iteledicon01 knows her, she is a fantastic Actor, writer, Continuity and even Directs once in a while.
At least if you can’t show up, post. As much as i love to just stay and mind my business, I find it heartbreaking. I do not see any growth in a place where the only people we support, show up for or show love are only people we know we might be needing later. That’s not love. That’s not support. That’s complete emotional transaction.
How about loving and supporting people who can’t do Anything for you too ONCE IN A WHILE. I know its a busy period and a lot of people have things doing. But out of your busy days you still show up for people that you will need later.
If it was a celebrity that attempted this, it won’t be like this. This lady has been in the industry for years. If not b4 me self.
Please let’s show support. Please! Please!! Please!!!
It’s a bold step she is attempting. A win for one is a win for all.
Win or not, she is in a critical stage at the moment cos of the disappointment she got from her colleagues. Lets not watch people die before we show up for them.
Please. Please 🙏🙏
