AFCON 2023 Draw: Super Eagles placed in Pot 2, could face Morocco, Senegal, Egypt

As we prepare for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, the Super Eagles of Nigeria find themselves positioned in Pot 2. This placement implies that Nigeria may potentially compete against either Morocco, Senegal, or Egypt when the tournament captures the spotlight next year.

In the most recent FIFA ranking, released earlier today, Nigeria secured the 6th position in Africa and the 40th spot globally, which unfortunately fell short of granting them access to Pot 1.

While the teams were initially divided into groups of four, each containing six teams based on FIFA rankings, the host nation, Cote d’Ivoire, ranked 9th on the continent, automatically occupies Pot 1. Consequently, Nigeria is placed in Pot 2 in anticipation of the draw.

The draw will be held on October 12 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
