Ololade Ayelabola, a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has set a new Guinness World Record for the longest distance catwalk by a model. Ayelabola completed an astounding 130.62 km, surpassing her initial target of 120 km.
The record-breaking feat began on October 1 at UNILAG’s indoor sports centre, marking a significant achievement in the modeling and fashion world.
After surpassing the 120 km milestone, Ololade Ayelabola continued her record-breaking walk, completing an additional 10 km and covering a total of 2,058 laps inside the sports facility.
In a post shared on Instagram, Ayelabola explained that her attempt to break the Guinness World Record was driven by her desire to highlight Nigeria’s creativity and vibrant fashion industry on a global platform.
“I’m not walking for myself alone. I am walking for many models who have been limited by stereotypes and standards set by rigid systems. I am also walking to showcase the creativity of the Nigerian fashion industry,” she stated.
Ayelabola’s accomplishment is pending verification and confirmation by Guinness World Records (GWR).
Her achievement surpasses the previous record set by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114.4 km (71.1 miles) in Dublin, Ireland, on September 21, 1983.
