Funke Akindele, a beloved figure in Nollywood, has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic loss of her colleague, Pope Obumneme Odonwodo, known as Junior Pope.

Junior Pope, celebrated for his bold performances on screen, met a heartbreaking end in a boat accident, plunging the entertainment industry into mourning. The devastating news of his passing was shared on Wednesday, April 10th, by filmmaker Samuel Olatunji.The father of three boys met his untimely demise, along with three fellow actors, while returning from a movie shoot via boat. The tragic incident unfolded as they tragically fell into the Anam River in Anambra State on Wednesday.

It is worth to know that the 39-year-old movie star was initially believed to survive the accident after slight movements of his fingers were noticed and was rushed to the hospital.

Junior Pope is survived by his three sons and his beloved wife, Jennifer Awele, with whom he entered into marriage in 2014.

This comes days after the Nollywood industry lost one of their talented actress, Aderonmu Adejumoke in the cold hands of death.

The unexpected demise of Junior Pope deeply saddened not only his fans and colleagues in the industry but also individuals like Funke Akindele, who is still grappling with the loss of Adejumoke.


Funke took to her Instagram story as she penned emotional tribute to Junior Pope, stating that she is speechless upon hearing her death.

She wrote, “Short of words!! So sad!!! Rest in peace bro!!! Ha!!! It’s a lot!!”
