Hilda Baci, the world record breaker, has disclosed that her father, Effiong Bassey Edem, disowned her and that their relationship was strained.
Hilda Baci disclosed in a recent interview with Taymesan Emmanuel, host of the podcast “Tea with Tay.”
The famous chef claims that since they were young, her father has been a part of her and her siblings’ lives. But when a heated argument between her mother and him affected the kids, that’s when everything changed.
Her father’s abrupt departure truly affected her, especially because she and her older brother, Gabriel, were set to graduate from college.
After supporting their academic journey through nursery, secondary school, and the initial years of their tertiary education, Hilda clarified that she couldn’t understand why her father had quit sponsoring their education.
However, she recalled a heartbreaking day when she called her father to discuss her school expenditures. To her surprise, he answered the phone and basically played the ‘Who’s your dad’ card, thereby disowning her over the phone.
At first, Hilda thought her dad was joking until he stopped funding her and sending allowance for upkeep.
In her words, “For me, I will say one of the biggest issues was when he abandoned me. He did not abandon me from on set I think that he was present for us to some extent. But when it came dawn on me, was when my father and mom had issues. It was more profounded on me because I was in 300 level second semester in University.”
“I pretty much remember our conversation between me and my father on one matriculation day. I was like, you did not bring food for me and his response was like, ‘Who’s your dad?’. It later dawned on me years after that he was not actually joking…..”
