Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has stated that while she identifies as a feminist, she does not support women disrespecting their husbands.
A feminist advocates for women’s equality in politics, the economy, and society.
During an interview with skit maker Kamo State and his wife, Akindele expressed her belief that women are not the “weaker sex,” emphasizing their strength and confidence.
She encouraged men to treat women with care and not limit them to traditional roles, such as being confined to the kitchen.
Additionally, she highlighted the importance of women’s financial independence, urging them to secure their own economic stability to support their husbands when needed.
“I’m a feminist but I do not support a woman disrespecting her husband. Do what is right,” she said.
“I believe that we are not the weaker sex or vessel. Men are suppose to treat us specially and respect us. Men should not also feel that a woman belongs to the kitchen and can be talked to anyhow.
“We women are strong, and bold. Also, our economic power is important that is why we should make sure we have the power and protect it so we can support our husbands.”

After getting married in London in 2016, Akindele and producer Abdulrasheed “JJC Skillz” Bello brought twin boys into the world in 2018.
However, JJC Skillz declared his divorce from Akindele in June 2022, claiming “irreconcilable differences.”
The singer asserted that although he made an effort to resolve the issue, it is now “beyond repair.”
