Renowned Nollywood actress Juliana Olayode, popularly known as Toyo Baby from the hit TV series Jenifa’s Diary, has openly opposed polygamy, stating firmly that she would never allow her husband to take a second wife.
In an interview with Oyinmomo TV, Olayode shared how her upbringing in a polygamous household shaped her views on marriage. She explained that growing up in such an environment exposed her to the numerous challenges and conflicts associated with polygamy.
Olayode revealed that these experiences left a lasting impact on her, ultimately shaping her decision to reject the idea of sharing her husband with another woman.
She stressed that she had witnessed firsthand the emotional and psychological toll polygamy can have on a family, including rivalry, misunderstandings, and a lack of unity among family members.
As a strong advocate for monogamous relationships, the actress emphasized that stability and peace in marriage are priorities for her. She believes that a successful marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, and unwavering commitment between two partners.
In her view, introducing a second wife only creates unnecessary complications—something she is unwilling to accept in her own home.
In her words: “My husband can’t marry a second wife. It’s not possible, and it’s never going to happen. The reason I don’t like polygamy is that I come from a polygamous home, and I know the problems and troubles attached to it. So I’m not interested, and I don’t want it. I usually reject married men who message me with romantic lines, claiming that if they had met me before their wives, they would have stuck with me instead.”
