“Practicing Islam Has Been Difficult For Me, I Even Forget To Pray Five Time Daily”- Mercy Aigbe Reveal What She Face Abandoning Christianity After 40 years

Mercy Aigbe, a veteran Nollywood actress and producer, has openly shared her experience of converting from Christianity to Islam, describing the transition as initially challenging.

In an interview on WasilaCoded TV’s Iriri Mi show, Aigbe reflected on her spiritual journey and the decision to embrace Islam after over 40 years as a Christian.

Renowned for her roles in Yoruba films, the actress revealed that her choice was driven by a desire for unity in her marriage. Before tying the knot, Aigbe was a devout Christian, while her husband practiced Islam.

Despite their differing religious backgrounds, she chose to convert to Islam to strengthen family bonds. She clarified that her husband never pressured her into the decision; instead, she arrived at it independently after careful thought and introspection.

Aigbe admitted that adjusting to Islamic practices was initially challenging. Having spent most of her life deeply rooted in Christian traditions, she struggled to adapt to the new religious routines and customs.

However, her dedication to serving God and her resolve to embrace Islamic teachings helped her through the transition.

The actress also shared her belief that Christianity and Islam worship the same God, a perspective that made her conversion more seamless and reassuring.

She said: “Christianity has been a part of my life because I had been practicing it for over 40 years, so it made practicing Islam a little difficult for me at first because I’m not used to the new practices. Sometimes, I forget to pray five times daily and whenever I misses one prayer I find it difficult to make it up. There are also several things I’m still trying to get adapted to too. But because I love God and I love serving Him, it made me determined in the new religion.”
