Nigerian actor Femi Branch has been nominated for Best Leading Actor at the AMVCA Awards for the first time in his 35-year acting career.
Expressing his joy, the veteran actor took to Instagram to appreciate the director who gave him the opportunity to play the role, despite others attempting to disqualify him with their words. In a heartfelt post, he also showered prayers, celebrating this significant milestone in his career.
Femi Branch noted that After 35 years of being an Actor, most of which were spent in the Yoruba movie Industry, imagine the irony of being cast as Leading man in a Yoruba Epic Movie by an English Producer/Director. Many doubted I could pull it off. Some even tried to discourage @bolanleaustenpeters from casting me for the role believing I was an English Actor who could not deliver such a powerful Yoruba character but she stood her ground and her mantra became “Femi Branch is Ga’a”
The rest as they say, is history. I put my heart and soul into proving all naysayers wrong and with the help of my Director and Friend Bolanle, to the glory of God, I pulled it off. May that person who will believe in you even more than yourself and give you the platform that will change your destiny locate you all. That was what Bolanle did for me.
So I thank her from the very depths of my soul. I thank @umoibon her able lieutenant. I thank the amazing Cast and Crew that worked with me and helped me to deliver this performance of a lifetime. May God bless you all.
I thank the amazing critics like @damidawson who scrutinized my performance and declared to the world that it was convincing.
I thank my amazing Fans, Friends and Lovers all over the world who watched HOUSE OF GAA and made it number 1 on Netflix for weeks, May God bless you all.
I thank @africamagic for the honor of this very humbling recognition, you guys have given me a gift that money cannot buy.
Now it’s in God’s hands as I share the nomination with some of Nollywood’s beddest Actors. Congratulations to us all.
Let’s all meet at the AMVCAs and by God’s Grace, bring home the prize.
