Chairman of Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, MC Oluomo, also known as Alhaji Musiliu Akinsanya, revealed a significant 25 per cent reduction in tickets purchased by commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators from the union. He made this announcement during a meeting with transport union leaders and operators, sharing that specific routes’ transport fares would be decreased from N500 to N300, and in other areas, fares of N200 would now be N150.
Moreover, Akinsanya conveyed that tickets sold to drivers at parks for N800 would be lowered to N600, and all booking fees would see a 25 per cent reduction. In conjunction with these measures, he introduced the formation of a task force team responsible for monitoring the implementation of these directives. To ensure compliance, he issued a warning to various parks and garages executives, emphasizing the imposition of sanctions on any defaulters.
The task force responsible for overseeing the implementation will include all members of state executives, parks’ chairmen, and selected union leaders. MC Oluomo highlighted that the agency’s primary aim is to minimize inconvenience to the public. He further clarified that this directive aligns with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s previous announcement regarding the reduction of bus fares.
MC Oluomo stated, “The Lagos State Government has created a favorable environment for our operations, leaving us no reason to join any strike that may disrupt the peace of the state. The various palliative measures implemented by the state government, including the 50 per cent reduction in government public transport and a downward review of our Yellow Buses fares, will greatly help alleviate the impact of the subsidy removal.”
He also mentioned internal measures taken, such as reducing Lagos State Government and union tickets, which will lead to a decrease in transport fares by commercial drivers.
