On December 11th, 2023, Victor Osimhen, the 24-year-old Napoli and Super Eagles forward, clinched the prestigious 2023 CAF Men’s ‘Player of the Year’ award at the ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco.
Osimhen secured the highest number of votes, surpassing Egypt’s Mohammed Salah and Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, to claim the esteemed individual honor for male African footballers.
As the Napoli striker emerged victorious, he notably became the first Nigerian since Nwankwo Kanu in 1999 to clinch the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award.
In 2023, Osimhen enjoyed a year filled with achievements, commencing with his leadership in guiding Napoli to their first Italian Serie A title in 30 years during the previous season.
The Eagles striker showcased his prowess by scoring 25 league goals, earning the distinction of becoming the league’s top scorer and marking history as the first African footballer to accomplish this feat.
