Deborah Ewedafe, a Canadian-based Nollywood actress, has opened up about the heartbreaking personal losses that led her to step away from her acting career. In a heartfelt interview with Kunleafod TV, Ewedafe revealed that 2024 was one of the most difficult years of her life, as she lost four close family members within just two months.
Renowned for her impactful roles in Nollywood and her efforts in promoting African storytelling internationally, Ewedafe disclosed that she had been planning to bring a group of actors to Canada for the continuation of season two of a film project she started two years ago. Unfortunately, those plans were abruptly put on hold due to the devastating series of events.
”I was planning to take some actors to Canada for the continuation of season two of one of my movies that I started two years ago,” she recounted. “However, I had to put everything on hold when I lost four members of my family in just two months.”
Ewedafe revealed the personal depth of her grief, explaining that among those she lost was her 31-year-old niece, whom she had raised since childhood. She also lost her brother, her cousin, and her father-in-law—each death compounding her sorrow and forcing her to retreat from the film industry to cope with the overwhelming grief.
”The year 2024 was one of the most difficult years of my life, but I thank God because I learned valuable lessons from those painful experiences,” she said with grace and gratitude, despite the immense pain.
The actress noted that while her passion for acting remains strong, the emotional toll made it impossible to continue working. Taking a step back was essential for her healing process and mental well-being.
Ewedafe’s heartfelt revelation has touched many, prompting an outpouring of support and sympathy from fans, colleagues, and industry figures. Many have praised her resilience, vulnerability, and strength, applauding her decision to prioritize her mental health and healing during such a challenging time.
As she continues her journey of recovery, supporters across the globe remain hopeful for her return to the screen when the time is right.
