Popular Nigerian controversial figure Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky, has opened up about his journey into crossdressing during a recent interview with Charly Boy.
In the candid discussion, Bobrisky revealed a significant revelation regarding his transition to becoming a transgender individual. He disclosed that his venture into crossdressing initially stemmed from a practical business decision while he was selling unisex clothing as a student at the University of Lagos.
This revelation sheds light on Bobrisky’s evolution as a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment scene and provides insight into the factors that influenced his decision to embrace crossdressing as part of his identity.
He revealed that at the time, he had no inkling that this seemingly innocuous choice would pave the way for a complete transformation into a new persona.
Although initially met with skepticism from his parents, Bobrisky highlighted that he eventually mustered the courage to stay authentic to himself and fully embrace his transgender identity. He credited his parents for ultimately supporting him, enabling him to express himself openly and live authentically.
In his words:
“About nine years ago, I was at the University of Lagos studying Accounting. I also had a side hustle, I was selling unisex clothes. Most times I try the female wears on myself and I love the outfits.
“From there, I moved to female hairstyles to makeup and more women were patronizing my business. So I decided to keep crossdressing since it was lucrative.
“I wasn’t thinking I was going to do it for a very long time. Initially, it was just a marketing strategy but people were complimenting me that I look better as a woman than a man. That’s how I ended up being Bobrisky.”
