Starting the chess marathon on Wednesday, April 17, Tunde Onakoya remains resolute in completing a 58-hour game, aiming to make a significant impact on the lives of millions of children worldwide.
As of this evening, the 29-year-old philanthropist has surpassed the 48-hour mark, engaging in over 100 unbeaten games with New York’s renowned chess master, Shawn Martinez, and a few other chess players.
In his quest to secure the Guinness World Record, Onakoya aims to raise $1 million for children’s education through the gift of chess.
In a recent update shared via his organization’s official social media page, donations totaling $59,068 (N63,645,770) have been generously contributed by Nigerians and other compassionate individuals worldwide.
Fans and well-wishers both at home and abroad continue to rally behind the chess master, eagerly anticipating his success in claiming the Guinness World Record title.
Notable Nigerian dignitaries and celebrities, including Adekunle Gold, Davido, Chioma Rowland, Asa Asika, Sowore, among others, have shown their support for Tunde by turning up to show their solidarity.
