Based on information gathered by famous9ja.com.ng, it looks that former Barcelona winger Emmanuel Amunike has been appointed head coach of the Super Eagles. Per reports, Amunike has been appointed as the official head coach of the national side by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Sports Ministry has granted the federation a two-week window in which to name Jose Peseiro’s replacement, although official confirmation from the NFF has still to come.
Rumor has it that Enyimba FC manager George Finidi, who excelled in that role under Peseiro, will remain one of the assistants to the new head coach of the Super Eagles. If these claims are true, Amunike will be up against the hardest task he has ever had in this position.
Amunike’s move to this new position will be widely observed because he previously succeeded in leading the Nigeria U17 national team to a FIFA U17 World Cup triumph.
Following a four-decade hiatus, Amunike’s tenure as Tanzania’s head coach was noteworthy as he guided the team to qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. His coaching efforts with Zambia’s Zanaco and Egypt’s Misr Lel Makkasa, however, did not have the same degree of success.
Furthermore, during his time with the Nigeria U20 side, the Flying Eagles, they were unable to secure an AFCON spot in 2017. Other candidates for the head coaching job with the Super Eagles were Danny Bruijs, Domenec Torrent, and Michael Nsien.
